 Who We Are
Our team has many years of experience teaching, counseling and nurturing children and their parents.

Dr. Gloria Harrison, Psy. D. – Co-founder and Principal  Consultant.  Gloria (Dr. Glo) is a licensed, clinical psychologist in private  practice in    Bellingham, Washington.  She specializes in psychospiritual  counseling,  grounded in a philosophy of spiritual  principles and  psychological  theory.  She guides her clients in increasing  their emotional  intelligence  through the practice of mindfulness and the development of compassion,  as well as other  emotion regulation tools that are  incorporated into the  Dialectical  Behavior Therapy Program she teaches. Dr. Glo has developed and facilitated workshops for parents and teachers that explore spiritual concepts and how they may be applied in teaching children. She has created and taught a DBT program for adolescent girls and is a trainer in the Mindfulness Education Program for children

Dr. Glo has lived in the Bellingham community since 1999, believing the spirit of the mountains and the sea called her here.  She embraces that spirit through hiking and backpacking with friends as well as sailing with her husband.  She is passionate about exploring consciousness and narrowing the gap between science and spirituality.

Alice Miles Erickson, Ph.D.  – Co-founder and Principal Consultant.  Alice Erickson (Dr. Ali) is a certified school psychologist and is an  educational consultant and adjunct professor at Western Washington  University.  She began her professional career as a special education  teacher receiving her Masters of Education degree from the University  of Puget Sound.  Her master’s research and subsequent work has  focused on assisting families and educators to teach pro-social  behaviors to children exhibiting extreme antisocial behaviors.  While at the University of Oregon, she researched stress in families of children with moderate to severe handicapping conditions and earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.  For the past 20 years, Dr. Ali has worked to promote and coach pro-social skills for children as well as create safe nurturing system-wide environments in school settings.  She has collaborated with university partners implementing and evaluating programs which teach children empathy, problem solving, anger management and the prevention of bullying.

Currently, Dr. Ali consults with day care centers and school districts.  She will also be offering workshops with other professionals at the Creative Child Center.  She is a certified STARS trainer and will be developing workshops which focus on supporting preshcool age children, darcare providers and their families.

Carolyn J. Schieck  - Co-founder and Principal Consultant.  Carolyn brings 33 years experience in elementary education to the Creative Child Center.  She received her graduate and post-graduate training in education from Western Washington University and is certified to teach K-12.  Carolyn is currently a part of the Whatcom Community College adjunct faculty for adult learning where she teaches courses in the power of intuition.  She also has a private practice teaching and counseling adults in Metaphysics and energy healing (as a Reiki Master).

Carolyn has developed numerous workshops and educational programs for children and adults.  In teaching children, she takes an experiential approach that integrates all of the child’s learning experience through the arts, music, intuition, play, observation, problem solving and experiencing nature.  Over the years of developing and refining this approach, she has continued to follow the principle that every child has the potential to express themselves, to relate to natural systems and be inspired to be the “artist” of their lives.   She intends that her work at the Creative Child Center will help children be inspired and realize their full creativity.  Her work with adults complements her work with children.  She knows that parents, teachers and educators are the guides for our children.  Her experience in developing and implementing educational programs and working with parents and peers fulfills the purpose of the Creative Child Center.
